The beginning of the school year and the coming of fall set in motion a series of exciting events, including my birthday. I grew up in the 1960s in woodsy Miller Beach near Lake Michigan. Every year, school started the following Monday after Labor Day. The first thing on my to-do list was to get myself ready for school picture day. I wanted to look great for forever once that final picture was snapped for one more year. I chose what I thought was the perfect dress. It had to have the right style and colors to my liking.
