My grandmother and grandfather Behm were married on June 1, 1911. They owned a farm in northeastern North Dakota. They had 12 children, with one who died at birth. My grandmother Behm, who truly loved children, always said she was cheated out of her even dozen children. My grandparents brought up all 11 children on that farm. It wasn't always easy, especially through the Dirty Thirties. They loved the Lord, prayed, attended the old country church, and always gave thanks to God for all they had. God always provided—maybe not what they wanted, but what they needed to survive.
