After viewing 40 different houses, Ian Brownhill and Michael Hirschl saw the potential in a run-down urban property with countryside views

Deciding that they wanted to take on a new project, Ian Brownhill and husband Michael Hirschl put their Edwardian property in north-west London on the market in 2015. What they didn’t realise was just how quickly it would be snapped up, leaving them in a mad dash to find a new home. ‘We’d been living there for over 20 years when the neighbourhood began to change, and our friends started to move away,’ explains Ian. ‘When it sold quicker than we thought it would, we then began to worry about where to go.’ It was not long after that Michael went to visit a friend in north London’s Winchmore Hill, and came back with rave reviews of its village feel, complete with a green, and fantastic shops.
