When doing a bench press is it best to have feet on the ground or in the air at 90 degrees? A There is no right or wrong, one is simply more advanced (feet in the air) due to having to balance with the back, due to your feet not helping you stabilise on the floor. This position will also fire up the abdominals and quadriceps. If you choose this position, I recommend having a spotter as there is more risk of becoming stuck under the bar during the final reps as, once again, you don’t have the feet as an extra stabiliser for the final, more difficult pushes.
