For me, going foraging is a great mental health tool, as well as something exciting to do. It helps us tune ourselves into the environment and become aware of it. Foraging allows us to connect with nature and discover the edible treasures hidden across the country’s diverse landscapes. From lush forests to coastal shores, Aotearoa is rich in wild foods for those willing to explore. Whether you’re an experienced forager or a curious beginner, there’s much to enjoy and learn about gathering food in the wild. Where to start Foraging begins with preparation. Equip yourself with sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate clothing and a basket, backpack or reusable bag for collecting your finds.
