"One of the most important things we can do as parents and leaders as we read and search the scriptures is to attend carefully and focus seriously on the points of doctrine taught by apostles and prophets. The author of this book quoted President Boyd K. Packer's marvelous statement about how the teaching of doctrine changes lives and builds faith and testimony like nothing else can. That being true, it is crucial that parents or caretakers utilize every occasion to help children understand the doctrine of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Familiarity with doctrine can give them a proper perspective on life; fortify them against the wiles and temptations of the devil; help them find comfort in difficult times; bring the Holy Spirit into their daily walk and talk; and, come to know their Lord and Savior in ways that nothing else can.
Any effort, therefore, to assist children in understanding the doctrine found in holy scripture and the teachings of latter-day apostles and prophets can be fundamental and foundational for our little ones. In that spirit, I applaud the effort of Andrea Erickson Lindsey to help parents help children. Having worked successfully as a seminary teacher within the Church Educational System, she is able to present the doctrine of the Church in a clear and understandable manner. Andrea is a former student of mine, and so I know something of her earnest desire, patience, and perseverance in pushing forward this project. It is my hope that the lessons and examples provided within this book will assist parents and loved ones to bring [the children] up in the nurture and admonition "to the end Lord" (Ephesians 6:4; see also Enos 1:1)." --Robert L.
