El artista ruso Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky (1866-1944) es uno de los precursores del arte abstracto y el expresionismo en pintura, básicamente un lenguaje visual que rompió con los cánones figurativos que imperaban hasta entonces, y en parte surgido por las influencias de desarrollos científicos, como los conceptos de cuarta dimensión y el continuo espacio-tiempo.
