Pollinators are important for gardeners because they move pollen between flowers, helping plants produce seeds and fruit. Most flowers can’t fertilise themselves, so they rely on this process. Pollinators visit our gardens for two things: nectar, the sugar-laden liquid which gives them energy (it’s their version of Lucozade, if you like), and pollen, the protein-rich sticky powder that allows them to breed and raise their young. As they collect food, pollen attaches to their bodies and gets carried from flower to flower, helping plants grow without them even realising it.
