SIMON YOUNG FILES A NEW REPORT FROM THE INTERFACE OF STRANGE PHENOMENA AND FOLK BELIEF

VERY SCARY FAIRIES It is perhaps the single scariest British fairy encounter. The year is 1757. Four children are playing in a field in Denbighshire. The children (three girls and a boy) are aged seven, eight, 10 and 15. The experience was recorded by the youngest, Edward Williams (1750-1813). Williams – who would become a celebrated Methodist preacher – wrote two difference accounts: one for the proto-fortean collector Edmund Jones, when Edward was in his early twenties; and the other as an autobiographical reminiscence much later in his life.
