FADING AWAY I want to introduce what I call the ‘Fade Encounter’, a modern vanishing trick. An example: a young man is walking through the morning fog in California in the 1980s. Suddenly, through the murk, he sees a woman step out onto the path. She smiles and says “Hello”, followed by his name. He stands awestruck – he has never seen her before (and will never see her again). Then she walks past and after five steps she simply isn’t there anymore. THE LOOKS The fade encounter depends on: i) a humanlooking supernatural being; and ii) their sudden disappearance, which confirms supernatural status.
