Rob Gandy reports from Warwick’s Unitarian Chapel on the 2024 USPS Conference

The Unitarian Society for Psychical Studies (USPS) 1 is one of only three psychical research groups with a theological background, 2 and it has significant archives. 3 Founded in 1965, it has boasted Professor Henry Habberley Price, Dr Robert Crookall, Arthur Koestler, Sir Alister Hardy and Peter Underwood among its presidents and vice presidents. Its well-attended Annual Conference took place on 28 September 2024 in Warwick. David Taylor, USPS’s indefatigable Secretary, had invited three FT regulars to speak: Alan Murdie, Mark Fox and myself, with Jeremy Harte hosting a stall for the Folklore Society. I opened with my presentation about ‘Haunted Roads’, and stressed that I am not a ‘Paranormal Expert’; I simply collect testimonies from witnesses of strange phenomena, seeking patterns that might exist.
