Taking on a Roadless E27N DG4 half-track restoration isn’t easy. The reason why the West family in east Kent wanted an example is because at one time a relation used one at Machynlleth, Powys while working for the Forestry Commission.

With that in mind, a 1948 Roadless E27N DG4 half-track came up, no. 1932, at the late February 2020 H J Pugh Tractor World sale, Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcestershire. Described as restored, on closer inspection it was certainly an older restoration (grade 2/4) that looked good. A non-runner, (although it stated it ran), what stood out was that it needed track repairs, as most of these types of tractors do. However, it wasn’t as rough as some of this rare breed can. The team required a petrol paraffin version, harder to find compared to the more popular and powerful Perkins P6 version, which are obviously worth more money. After weighing things up, they decided to go for it and on a cold and windy sale day they came away…
