A Patriotic Sequel…

AFTER WATCHING THE BIG SCREEN EXPERIENCE of “Top Gun: Maverick,” the thrilling, high-G, gravity-defying film starring Tom Cruise as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell—the sequel landing more than three decades after the late Tony Scott’s original—there is not a doubt in my mind that this is the cinematic event of the year and beyond. I truly left the theater feeling exhilarated and patriotic. This film has it all and is pure entertainment: F/A-18 Super Hornets, bad guy 5th generation fighters, adrenaline-pumping, low-altitude, high-speed flights, dogfights, a Mach 10 hypersonic jet, an F-14 “relic” and even Cruise on his Kawasaki Ninja ZX900 donned in his original Top Gun leather jacket—all accompanied by Harold Faltermeyer’s 1986 musical score. But beyond the entertainment value of the film, it pays homage to our extraordinary Navy…
