One has to dig deep to find reasons to support finance minister Malusi Gigaba, whose role as a key architect in the state capture oproject can only be denied by beneficiaries, loved ones and die- hard fans. Yet here we are, stuck with Mr Gigabyte in charge of state finances, and by extension, with quite a bit of influence over our own pockets. We must therefore hope he passes his first major test – the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) on 25 October. To date, there has been little news flow from his ministry to inspire confidence.
