Strenuous objections have been raised to Eskom's 32,02% tariff increase application for the financial year starting 1 April 2023 and 9,75% for the year thereafter.
According to Eskom, these price hikes were necessary due to the depreciation of its power generation assets, higher diesel and fuel oil prices, and increased procurement from independent power producers.
The utility warned in a statement that failure to grant the hikes would lead to a further deterioration of its assets and more rolling blackouts.
