Load-shedding and water shortages

South Africa has set a new record high for the number of hours of load-shedding experienced thus far in 2022. At the time of writing, South Africans had experienced several weeks of continuous load-shedding; so far this year, we have had 2 022 hours of load-shedding, up 75% from 2021, according to various sources. Farmer's Weekly has reported on the impact of load-shedding on farming operations in past issues and online, but parts of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Ekurhuleni recently saw the implementation of water-shedding, a direct result of the unabated rolling blackouts of the past few weeks. On 4 October, Rand Water implemented Stage 2 water restrictions, which means a 30% reduction in water usage.
