El enclave data de 1236, cuando esta tierra era constantemente atacada por los templarios germanos; ya saben, los temibles caballeros teutónicos. Y así, entre un constante guerrear, se comenta que surgió esta colina atiborrada de cruces; cruces que sirvieron de símbolo contra la opresión que ha sufrido a lo largo de su historia el pueblo lituano, porque desde ese tiempo hasta pasada la II Guerra Mundial –y tras ella, la tenaza soviética–, esta gente no ha estado tranquila.
