Circula por Internet la noticia de un supuesto avista-miento ufológico del tercer tipo protagonizado por el papa Juan XXIII. Según esta “información”, el año 1961 el pontífice estaba en su residencia de Castell Gandolfo cuando observó un objeto volante de forma ovalada y luces intermitentes de colores. La nave sobrevoló las cabezas de los presentes para, súbitamente, aterrizar sobre la hierba del jardín. Acto seguido, un humanoide resplandeciente salió del objeto y avanzó hacia el pontífice. Juan XXIII también caminó al encuentro del inesperado visitante hasta colocarse frente a frente. Entonces, se miraron y mantuvieron una conversación que ninguno de los demás testigos pudo oír.
