RISING FROM THE FLOODWATERS.. You couldn’t make this up. Having just opened its newly renovated cellar door in December 2022, the folks at Shed 530 on Puketapu Road in Hawke’s Bay could not imagine that just two months later, in February 2023, their prized chardonnay vineyard would be ripped away, their 100-year-old original Shed completely destroyed and the entire property buried under half a metre of silt following Cyclone Gabrielle. Since then, winemaker Kel Dixon has been working tirelessly to clear silt, rebuild the property, making wine from their other vineyards and keeping the Shed530 spirit alive. Today the cellar door and winery are again open for business, Wednesday to Sunday for wine tasting, bistro dining and general jolly japery. So make it a stop on your next Hawke’s Bay…
