The past deciphers the future.
After making wrong decisions with his first murder investigation, Detective Matthew Compton is glad to still have his position as sergeant. Now he has a string of assaults on prostitutes, and his only lead: cryptic lines from a Medieval book of the dead.
Even though DS Compton saved his life in his previous case, Detective Inspector Jacob Murray needs someone less complicated as his second. Now he has a new sergeant, multiple murders, and clues written in a language he can't decipher.
At first the cases appear unrelated, but as the detectives follow the clues, they find their cases become intertwined on both a criminal and personal level.
Will they be able to put aside past differences to stop a killer before someone close to them becomes the next victim?
