Blair McDougall was one of five Scottish Labour MPs who signed a letter saying the UK Government's proposed reforms were “truly progressive” — just days after it was reported that the Government wants to cut £6billion from the benefits bill.
McDougall, who led the Better Together campaign in 2014, said social security payments to disabled people would be under threat unless Scotland voted against independence.
A Better Together paper said: "By saying no thanks to separation we can make sure that we protect the most vulnerable in our society from the massive cuts that would have to happen in a separate Scotland."
