Some vacant buildings ‘set to house students’

Thobeka Ngema thobeka.ngema@inl.co.za VACANT state-owned buildings and land within eThekwini Municipality are expected to be used as sites for dealing with gender-based violence, for student housing, waste management bureaus, and advertisement and revenue-generation. This was said by Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Patricia de Lille in response to a written parliamentary question from the IFP’s Khethamabala Sithole. Sithole had asked De Lille how many buildings and land sites in the eThekwini Municipality area were owned by her department, how many of them were unoccupied, and what plans were in place to utilise those that were unutilised.
