On a milestone tenth birthday, Greg Scott and his son put into motion what became a remarkable cross-Canada journey. The two ceremoniously dipped their bicycle tires in the Pacific Ocean and pedalled east as far as a young boy's legs and a little bike could handle. One year later, they picked up from the exact spot where they left off and pushed on eastward. They continued in that same fashion each summer for fifteen years, with their sights set on making it to the Atlantic Ocean to dip their tires again.
The Cycle of Life shines light on the importance of cultivating connections and embracing a spirit of adventure. It gives us insight into treasuring one-on-one time and the value of sharing stories with our kids. Through ten provinces, five and a half time zones, and seven thousand kilometres, the duo uncover surprising Canadian quirks and tidbits. They tackle mountain passes, abandoned railways, and ghost towns. The pair cope with the elements of intense storms, tough prairie winds, and bicycling snow-outs. They navigate flat tires and bear chasings, bond over pies and poutine, and witness Great Lakes sunrises and twenty-seven-foot tides. Joyfully watching his son grow on the ride of a lifetime, the journey illustrates how a parent can embrace the inevitable passing of the pacesetting torch from one generation to the next.
Enjoy the ride.
