The journey, not the destination

PHIL ROSS – EDITOR I always admired the US Navy ceremony for changing captains of its ships. After all the usual official administration matters are dealt with, the retiring captain turns to the new and announces: “I am ready to be relieved”. To which the new captain replies: “I relieve you, (sir/ma’am).” To my ear, it has a beautiful finality about it. Tremendously emotional as one person embarks on their next stage of life, while the other shows their willingness to take on the awesome responsibilities before them. So, here we are. After over forty years of publishing, totalling 483 magazines since October 1980, Cruising Helmsman is tentatively stating it is ready to be relieved.
