Pál Takáts has scored a major coup in being signed up as a permanent fixture on the multi-million dollar Red Bull Air Race circuit. Ed Ewing caught up with him at the start of the season in Abu Dhabi

Pál Takáts is looking a little stressed. “Oh it’s nothing – just these guys giving me a hard time getting in here” He motions towards the security at the entrance, which features a couple of guys in uniform, an x-ray machine for bags and an airport-style security metal detector. We are ‘behind the rope’ at the Red Bull Air Race in Abu Dhabi in mid-March. It’s the first race of the season and everyone is on their toes. Like the proverbial swan gliding serenely while it’s paddling furiously, the whole operation looks and feels smooth. But below the waterline people sweat.
