Wayne Glover “W,” WE7G, CQ USA-CA All Counties Award #1251

On July 29th 2015, I completed my long-sought goal of making contact with an amateur radio station in each of the 3077 current counties in the United Sates using Morse code [CW], with the last county for the WBOW (whole ball of wax - ed.) going to Jim Funk, N9JF/M in Lawrence, Kentucky. The trek started way back in 1954 in junior high school when they offered a class in “electronics.” The teacher apparently had been a radio operator in World War II, so with a smattering of radio-electronics theory, the class spent time listening to a code tape machine which spewed forth CW in 5-letter groups that we diligently copied. We also sent code with a straight key for others to copy. I can’t recall how bad my fist…
