Elizabeth Barrett Browning only lived until 1861 but when she wrote her timeless poem, “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways,” I’m sure she was referring to all the different aspects of amateur radio mobile operations that would unfold in the following century. That’s because poets have the gift of prescience, or so I’m told. Actually, I think it was a poet who told me that. Nevertheless, we often think in terms of our most immediate needs, or applications, which for the most part serves our communications purposes. They might be in the form of a basic VHF mobile rig that sees duty during the daily commute, up through APRS®, HF mobile setups, and full-blown stations in a motorhome or RV trailer.
