From Alfalfa to Zebra …

Our hobby encompasses a wide variety of fields, from science and math to geography and art. Here’s a sample of the latter, by the daughter of a longtime ham.

Patty Bowman

Patty Bowman* is not a ham, but she has grown up in a ham radio family and has absorbed the ham radio culture in a couple of not-so-common ways, one of which she shares with us here. In submitting her illustrated phonetic alphabet, Patty wrote that her dad, Jim Bowman, KS1J, “is an avid lifelong ham radio operator, and has had a subscription to your magazine for as long as I can remember. He’s even currently teaching my 10-year-old niece! She loves it! She's always spelling things out in Morse code.” We suspect that ham radio has also had an influence on Patty’s work.
