SEARCHING FOR Acompanion to light your fire? Huron Log Furniture in Echo Bay, Ont., can help. In 2024, the small company began combining cedar shavings with beeswax to create a homemade fire starter. “At first, we were just looking at doing it for ourselves,” says Steve McNaughton, Huron’s co-founder and the brains (at least partly) behind the Wilson Fire Starter. But he and his family figured an eco-friendly, long-burning starter would be useful for cottagers and other outdoorsy folk. Steve’s four children helped crayon out the initial logo; looking at the prototypes, “We decided it needed a name,” says Steve. Inspiration sparked!
