Le premier est né dans le Nord de l'Italie, le second en Sicile. C'est à l'Institut de Design de Florence qu'Andrea Trimarchi et Simone Farresin croisent leur destin. Après, ce sera la Design Academy d'Eindhoven et, en 2009, la fondation de leur studio, Formafantasma. Un nom apparu comme une fulgurance à des designers qui placent au cœur de leur réflexion l'attention aux matières plus qu'à la forme. Formafantasma encapsule leur quête de forme «fantôme», mouvante et mystérieuse, fruit d'un processus de fabrication adapté à chaque matière. Leur vision décalée fait œuvre de mémoire, à l'image du projet «De Natura Fossilium», collection d'objets taillés en partie avec les cendres volcaniques de l'Etna.
