From blurred roads, buildings, and underpasses appearing like fading hallucinations, to a cacophony of traffic seen twisting through the windshield of a taxicab, Commuter Motions gives us a series of motion blur urban landscape photographs which embodies the energy surrounding our highways, bridges and cities. Taken along the eastern end of the Interstate 78 corridor, it tells the story of a commute, documenting an oscillating movement between the Pennsylvania city of Easton, through New Jersey and into midtown New York City. The physical and experiential geography maps the places and activity between these two landmarks and through movement, the series confronts the fixity of the photographic medium. It introduces the variable of passing time, in an attempt to capture the urban landscape that is, by its nature, ever-changing and ungraspable. Each photograph absorbs an energy and vibration that we daily experience as we travel to our cities, and though fully immersed, it is an energy we rarely perceive.
