She became a worldwide sex symbol in the 1950s with Picnic and Pal Joey, but Kim Novak walked away from showbiz to live a quiet life, raising horses and painting in the country with her husband of 40 years, veterinarian Robert Malloy. “It’s like when you hold your horse too tight and rein them in — they fight you,” she told Closer on the TCM Cruise. “They want their freedom, and that’s how I felt.” Not all of her experiences in Hollywood were constricting, of course. “My all-time favorite leading man was Jimmy Stewart,” says Kim, 83, of her Vertigo and Bell, Book and Candle co-star. “I always thought of him like your favorite morning slippers, fuzzy and warm.” Her relationship with Vertigo director Alfred Hitchcock was chillier: “He was an…
