The BMW 5 Series has a legacy that goes all the way back to 1972 when the first-generation E12 first appeared, while fast Fives can trace their lineage back to the E28 M5 of 1984, a car that wowed the motoring scene at the time and which is still considered to be one of BMW's greatest hits even now, over 40 years on.
