Potentially, I might be opening myself up to vilification from the odd grumpy pedant, but in my humble opinion, one’s hands are the finest tool in the entire workshop and without them the rest are futile. Sadly, wiping them over with an oily rag is not an ideal way of preserving them. As a nipper, starting my apprenticeship, it was made very clear to us spotty oiks that not protecting our skin was bad news, but at that age I was immortal and only the namby-pamby boys washed their hands or anything else for that matter! Of course, looking back, this was probably not unconnected with my poor success rate with the opposite sex at that age! I was constantly playing with bikes and my hands were permanently bathed in…
