There was a hugely popular victory for Ben Friend and Cliff Simmonds on round nine of the British Historic Rally Championship — the Trackrod Historic Cup in Yorkshire over the last weekend of September.

On a day when any one of six crews could have taken victory, it was Ben Friend and Cliff Simmonds who sealed it in a nail-biting finish by setting a furious pace through the deciding 10-mile forest stage in Langdale. The Trackrod is an absolute highlight of the BHRC season and the strongest entry of the year opened the contest over a tough Dalby stage on Friday evening and five further high speed challenges on Saturday. Friday was a tough start for everyone as Dalby in the dark was wet and slippery in places but, ultimately, it had little effect on the result as young Adam Milner rolled his freshly-rebuilt Mk1 Escort Mexico after just 6 miles and blocked the stage.
