Few performance Fords have endured as tumultuous an existence as the ultimate special edition Cosworth, the Escort Monte. Built to commemorate Francois Delecour’s victory on the 1994 Monte Carlo Rally, the Monte was initially viewed as something of a curio, and, while it’s true that Ford never struggled to find homes for the 73 examples earmarked for the British market, it’s probably fair to say that it’s only in recent years that the innate value of this, most special of Escort special editions has come to be properly appreciated. One man who has never failed to grasp the worthiness of the Monte is Steven ‘Gibby’ Gibson of Gibby’s Spraying Services in Harthill, Scotland.
