I’m sure you won’t be surprised that the first car I bought was a Mk1 Cortina. But at the time it was 23 years old, rusty and unreliable, and it didn’t take me long to go out and buy what I consider to be my first car — a 1979 Escort 1600 Sport. This was a bit of me, it was my independence, it was my game changer. I bought it locally through Auto Trader, which at the time ran black and white photos.
