The glowing spine illuminating the core of the nation from top to bottom. That’s the image so many will conjure whenever the Transit is mentioned, a work of late-1990s marketing genius showing the versatility and dependability of the smiley Mk5 Transit. Of course, this reverence had been baked in right from the very start, decades before the ad agency Ogilvy & Mather illustrated it so vividly with their iconic Backbone Of Britain advert, as the Mk1 Transit of 1965 was one of the all-time good ideas.
