Shiyu Lin, the author of this book, was born in Pingnan County, Fujian Province, China, and graduated from the Law School of Renmin University of China with a Master's Degree in Law. Successively she has been engaged in works as a civil servant, journalist, teacher and other occupations. After she moved to New Jersey, United States in 2013, she started to write special columns for some of Chinese domestic media, in an effort to let people know more about American education, law and other systems. To answer many readers' question "What is the real America," Mrs. Lin started to interview some Chinese immigrants around her in her daily life. Most of the interviewees are Chinese immigrants who came to the United States after the restoration of Sino-US diplomatic relationship. They are engaged in various occupations including Chinese teacher, restaurant owner, preacher and artist, etc. During her interviews, the author found that all the interviewees share one thing in common, that is, they have all successfully rebuilt a new life in the United States after overcoming difficulties encountered during their early stage of immigration. For those who can adapt and are willing to work hard, the United States is truly a land full of opportunities. This book is like a collection of stories about the "American Dream." The author hopes that by presenting these narrated stories through this book, she can not only reveal some contemporary issues in United States, but also objectively record pieces of Chinese immigrants' historical moments, which is an integral part of American immigration history.
