10 Bad Takes

It doesn’t happen often, and this may shock you, but we aren’t always right—yet we are always willing to cop to our mistakes. Here are 10 vehicles that we either erroneously thought were great, didn’t appreciate fully, or just plain missed. Our deepest apologies.

1997-98, 2000-01 ACURA INTEGRA TYPE R We were happy enough with this 8400-rpm legend, but the fact that it never made 10Best is looking more and more like a glaring omission. 1987–91 BMW 325i/is Surprised? We did like the 325is, but the rest of the E30s never won a comparo or a 10Best. The staff was probably still trying to rinse their palate of the torpid 325e that launched in ’84. The i’s are great. Period. 1980–85 CHEVROLET CITATION In what might be the most obvious L in C/D history, we said the Citation “blows everybody into the weeds.” We didn’t say that in the story or in a headline, but on the cover of the May 1979 issue. 1985–89 MERKUR XR4TI A European Ford with a turbo four driving the rear wheels sounded like a BMW…
