Broos picks players because of their profile, not who they play for

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has reiterated his stance on the criteria he uses to make selections for his squad. South Africa will play two international friendlies over the next week as they look to step up their preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in November. Broos’ men will host Eswatini on Friday, before travelling to play 2023 Africa Cup of Nations hosts Ivory Coast next Tuesday. Broos had named a 36-player preliminary squad previously and has now cut down his squad to a final 23-player group.
