City and SERI in high court over evictions

AS WORLD Homeless Day is observed today, the City’s application to evict people living in the city centre is being heard in the Western Cape High Court. The day is observed annually on October 10 to draw attention to the needs of people who experience homelessness, and raise awareness of the support that is available to them. For about 120 people living on the street in Cape Town, the day coincides with the possibility of their eviction from their tents and makeshift shelters. The City was granted an application earlier this year for eviction notices to be served at various sites including Buitengracht Street, Helen Suzman Boulevard and Strand Street.
