THE SA Post Office (Sapo) has obtained its worst audit opinion for the fourth year in a row, as Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke looked into the entity’s finances for the 2022/23 financial year.
The finances of the troubled entity were in such a mess that Maluleke could not express an audit opinion on its financial statements.
“I was unable to obtain sufficient appropriate audit evidence to provide a basis for an audit opinion on these consolidated and separate financial statements,” she said.
Maluleke was commenting in her 10-page audit report tabled in Parliament in September, as part of Sapo’s annual report. In her report, Maluleke said the group and company incurred losses of R2 161 777 000 and R2 174 582 000, respectively, for the year ended March 2023.
