ABOUT 24 000 Eritrean refugees are trapped in two camps in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, cut off from humanitarian aid, and their food rations may have run out, the UN said yesterday. Appealing for access to the camps, the UN refugee agency said there was “a real danger of hunger”. Fighting between the Ethiopian central government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has escalated in and around the camps, and two refugees have been killed this month. “The last food distribution to the two refugee camps was done during June, the ration supplies then were only enough for 30 days,” said the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
