SA lawyers sue Tanzanian state

Staff writer THREE human rights lawyers – two of whom are South African – are suing the Tanzanian government after they were detained, denied access to their lawyers, subjected to interrogation, had their possessions confiscated and were threatened with anal examinations in 2017. South African human rights lawyers Sibongile Ndashe and Khanyo Mkhize, along with Noah Mirembe, were members of the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (Isla) – a pan-African feminist organisation that works on women’s human rights and sexual rights – when they, along with local partners, were detained despite no formal charges ever being laid against them.
