The Synapse has been completely remodelled for 2018, now designed for disc brakes only. On the entry-level 105 model (reviewed in BikesEtc issue 36), it felt like the frameset was held back by some heavier, cheaper parts. With this model, with the Hi-Mod frame and SRAM eTap groupset, weight is certainly not an issue. At just over 7kg, it is lighter than everything else in its class with disc brakes fitted. That low weight is immediately noticed when riding, feeling taut and stiff while still very comfortable. The slim SAVE seatpost increases comfort, as do the wide tyres. The only slight disappointment is that although the Hollowgram wheels are tubeless compatible, the tyres are not. Switching to tubeless could potentially improve comfort even further.
