Dockless bike-share schemes inspire debate wherever they appear, but we had a slightly different question. ‘Can they be used for more than short city journeys?’ And would they survive the iconic Newcastle Overnight ride? Three intrepid adventures - Jason Sylvester, Jose Aragon and yours truly - believe bicycles are a valid form transport and not just sporting goods. So when ReddyGo agreed to lend us some bikes we signed up for a lazy 180km trip to find out. For the uninitiated, ReddyGo bikes are smallish, upright and rather heavy step-through bikes. They have solid rubber tyres, basic dyno-hub lights and a limited range of seat adjustability. They do have three speed gears, v-brakes on the front and are lighter than most bike-share bikes.
