He becomes distraught after his family were killed in a car accident. One day President Kennedy summoned him to the White House. There, he is reunited with Alan, Jacques, and George Scherff, Nikola Tesla's assistant. Erik learns that the Nazis repulsed the Normandy invasion in 1944. Erik volunteers to return to 1944 as an American intelligence officer to find out where the leak occurred and to correct the timeline. However, he is involved in a car accident and awakens in a U.S. Army hospital.
