REVISED EDITION.
Becoming Hearing Empowered offers an innovative way to address the challenges of hearing loss. Not only does it include the nuts and bolts of understanding your hearing loss, reading an audiogram, utilizing assistive technology, and personalizing accommodations, but it also offers the opportunity to consider the significant emotional impact straining to hear basic conversations can have on your well-being. Through guided journaling and creative activities, consider how negative experiences can derail your efforts to confidently move forward in social situations. Fight your internalized stigma, effectively and respectively refute accusations of "selective hearing," and confidently disclose your hearing loss and your accommodation needs in any situation.
Hearing loss is a complex disability, strife with negative stigma that might have prevented you from seeking help for years, cutting you off from the social interaction you crave. It's important to know the nuts and bolts, but that knowledge won't do you any good if you are embarrassed to talk about your hearing loss and struggle to admit that you need support.
In this book, I apply my experience as a person with lifelong hearing loss and as a Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to guide you toward Becoming Hearing Empowered!
