Making the view comfortable

Here's how to take the strain off your arms and spend longer scanning the night sky

You can make your time looking high in the sky far more comfortable by using some sort of garden recliner, especially one that supports your head (and therefore helps to steady your binoculars). Steadying the view always helps you see more. The easiest way is often to simply rest your elbows on something convenient, be it the roof of a car, the branch of a tree, a fence, an upturned garden rake… you're limited only by your imagination. It's tempting to get a tripod adaptor and use a sturdy tripod. This is fine for low-elevation targets, but point your binoculars higher up and you'll find your legs get tangled up with the tripod.
